Referral Pathways
The presence of red flags (to suggest serious or life threatening disease) warrants urgent referral.
The referral is likely to general paediatrics.
- Bone or joint pain or back pain
- Fever, systemic upset, night pain, weight loss, pallor, bruising
- Non-weight bearing / acute limp
- Painful scoliosis
- Concerns about non-accidental injury
The child who is immunosuppressed (whether as a result of their disease or their treatment) may not present with typical red flag features even with infection. Any concern warrants seeking specialist advice.
