MIS-C and COVID-19

Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) is a hyperinflammatory condition among children with recent severe acute respiratory syndrome–related coronavirus 2 (SARS-COV-2) infections or exposures.

These children presented with fever, systemic illness, and sometimes shock, cardiac involvement, and multi-organ failure.  MIS-C is considered a multi-organ dysfunction involving cardiac, renal, respiratory, hematologic, gastrointestinal and neurological symptoms and groups of signs and symptoms such as rash or bilateral non-purulent conjunctivitis, hypotension or shock and acute gastrointestinal problems, which require immediate therapeutic intervention to prevent the aggravation of the patient's health condition. This condition shows similarities to KD, and since the emergence of COVID-19, must be included in its differential diagnosis.

Further information about MIS-C is available.
